Avolovers newsletter: August Avocados are fresh, ripe, and ready to delight!

Hey Avocado Lover,

August Avocados: Fresh, ripe, and ready to delight!

Despite our adoration for the humble avocado, we know the challenges that come with selecting, ripening, and storing the perfect one. But fret not! We’ve got all the tips and tricks you need to savor every delicious bite of avocado.

Did you know most avocados in New Zealand are a variety called Hass. Hass avocados are awesome because they change colour as they ripen.
Tip: Select an avocado depending on when you intend to eat a yummy avocado dish. Check out our handy guide below.
Trick: Use colour instead of squeezing to determine the ripeness.

Avocados don’t start ripening until they are harvested from the tree.
Tip: Place a ripe avocado in the fridge for 2-3 days to slow down ripening.
Trick: Bananas naturally produce ethylene which helps ripen fruits like avocados. Place an avocado in a brown paper bag with a banana to speed up the ripening process.

Storing avocados doesn’t have to be tricky.
Tip: Add a squeeze of lemon to your cut avocado to reduce browning.
Trick: Pureed avocado with lemon juice can be frozen for up to four months and ensures you always have guacamole on hand.

Try out these tips and tricks and enjoy a New Zealand Avocado: the perfect for a happy you.
