5 tips to make the most of your avocado
20/01/2025
Avocados are more than just a trendy topping for toast or the star ingredient in guacamole—they’re a multi-purpose powerhouse. From ripening them quickly and keeping them fresh to using them in skincare and baking, there’s so much more you can do with this versatile fruit. Check out these handy tips and unlock new ways to enjoy and benefit from avocados!
Ripen avocados faster
Need ripe avocados in a pinch? Place unripe avocados in a brown paper bag along with a banana or apple. These fruits emit ethylene gas, which accelerates the ripening process. Within a couple days, your avocados will be ripe and ready to use.
Too much of a good thing?
Are there too many ripe avocados sitting in your fruit bowl? Refrigerate uncut ripe avocados until eaten, but limit this to two or three days.
Keep your avocado green
Got leftover avocado? To prevent cut avocados turning brown, squeeze a bit of lemon or lime juice over the exposed flesh. The acidity slows down oxidation and keeps the vibrant green colour intact. Wrap the avocado in cling wrap and store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Pamper your skin with DIY avocado masks
Avocado isn’t just for eating; it’s also a natural skincare hero! Packed with healthy fats and vitamins, avocado can deeply nourish and hydrate your skin. Mash a ripe avocado and combine it with honey or yoghurt for a soothing face mask. Apply it to your face, leave it on for 15–20 minutes, and enjoy soft, glowing skin. Enjoy a relaxing self-care session.
Bake healthier with avocado
Did you know that avocado can replace butter in baking? Swap butter for mashed avocado in recipes like brownies, muffins, or cookies to create a healthier version of your favourite treats. Avocado adds moisture and a creamy texture, making your baked goods deliciously rich while cutting down on saturated fats.
